About Joi

My passion is finding my bloom and fully developing myself, for myself.

I am a griot, conduit and a rootworker.

I create worlds outside of myself to understand the ones within me. I'm a writer/author, filmmaker, digital media manager/creator, entrepreneur and mom.

A multi-hyphenate to my core.

Creating is my birthright.

In my 30 years as a writer and creative, I've danced along the margins of poet and essayist, seeing my words first in my mind's eye before bringing them to paper or screen. I have enough notebooks, I tell myself as I buy more. I'm an ambivert who had to learn how to talk to people for my work. I'm a survivor who dares to keep going.

Right Side
Reign

Right Side Reign seeks to elevate and activate the “right side” of the brain, the side that houses creativity, emotion, ingenuity and innovation through photography.

As we snatch our voices back from those who tried to speak for us, we need to see each other in real time sharing our journeys

Who am i for?

Creative Black Women & Femmes

Black people, but specifically Black women, run the internet and are decidedly the bastions of art and culture. I work most with them because I am them. I am of them. When I started my career, Black women helped me build my foundation through support, education, and the allowance to fail and rebuild. We are complex and innovative. With my words and work, I celebrate our resilience and draw strength from our shared experiences.

Parents and Caregivers

A Black eclipse-gen Millennial raising a late-gen Z Enby kid. Lettuce pray with feast and splendor.

Entrepreneurs and Brands

Entrepreneurs and brands seeking to connect with their audiences past the trends and pre-crafted talking points can benefit from what we're doing over here. I work to infuse soul and breath into every venture.

Survivors

Survivors of trauma, religious dogma, small thinking, boxes, projection and misplaced animosity - both done internally and externally - are welcome here.

Seekers of Authenticity

Those on a quest for authenticity and self-discovery find a kindred spirit here.

Advocates for Change

We address challenging topics, such as sexual assault, imposter syndrome, the current political climate, etc., as ways to empower ourselves towards social change and live unafraid of saying the hard things.
